Dedicated to the memory of 'Sampson Coysgarn Wiltshire Ob 19 Nov 1827 Aet 32', achingly full of emotion, we imagine that this exquisitely beautiful Georgian mourning ring would most likely have been worn by Sarah, his widow. Sampson Coysgarn Wiltshire was a goldsmith of 46 Fenchurch Street, London who married Sarah Goodchild in 1822. Sadly he died at the young age of 32, five years after his first child Thomas died aged 4 months old in 1823. So much sadness to bear for young Sarah.
The design is so totally hand made and poignantly detailed with meaning in every aspect; the central rock crystal covered plaque curves hold a small section of plaited hair and is surrounded by faceted black glass cabochon gems. The band itself is beautifully tapered to the back and enamelled 'In Memory Of', the edges ornamented with scrolls and floral motifs. The whole in 18ct yellow gold with full hallmarks for London 1827.
It isn't possible to size, but it is a nice average 'M/ 6/12/52'.
